Chapter 2.12 FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION
2.12.071 Definitions.
For the purposes of this article, the following words have
the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section, except where the
context clearly indicates a different meaning:
“Alarm administrator” means a person designated
to administer, control, and review false alarm reduction efforts and administer
the provisions of this article.
“Alarm installation company” means a person in
the business of selling, providing, maintaining, servicing, repairing, altering,
replacing, moving or installing a fire alarm system.
“Alarm system monitoring company” means any
individual, partnership, corporation or other form of association that engages
in the business of monitoring fire alarm systems and reporting any activation of
such alarm systems to the fire department.
“Alarm user” means any individual, partnership,
corporation or other form of association that owns or leases a fire alarm system
or on whose premises a fire alarm system is maintained for the protection of the
premises.
“Automatic dialing telephone alarm” means a fire
alarm system with a device that automatically dials the fire department
emergency assistance telephone lines without human activation of the device by
the alarm user.
“False alarm” means an alarm signal eliciting
notification to and a response by the fire department when there is no evidence
of a fire or other activity that warrants a call for immediate fire department
assistance and no person who was on or near the property has viewed a video
communication from the property called for fire department dispatch or confirmed
the need for fire department assistance. “False alarm” does not
include an alarm signal caused by violent conditions of nature or other
extraordinary circumstances beyond the control of the alarm user.
“Fire alarm system” means a device or series of
devices, including, but not limited to, hard wired systems and systems
interconnected with a radio frequency method such as cellular or private radio
signals, which emit or transmit a remote or local audible, visual or electronic
signal indicating an alarm condition and intended to summon fire department
response, including local alarm systems. (Ord. O-15-04 (part), 2004)
