Bicentenial 1808 - 2008
Just how old did you say you are?
They say a lady never tells her age, but in this case everyone in town is proudly talking about it. In 2008 Travelers Rest turned 200 years old and we celebrated with a year-long list of activities, including a bicentennial harvest festival, a 5K run, and the Hometown History and Heroes series held throughout the year at the Sargent Branch Library.
These sessions featured the history of Travelers Rest with interesting stories of our founding from local historians who have published books, participated in Confederate re-enactments, and even built an authentic Indian teepee. We also heard from renowned local townspeople who have gained recognition, including an international motorcycle champion, a philanthropist, and a reality TV star, among others.
